FHIR Forums and Communities — where to get help

When I began working with FHIR a few years ago I expected to find large online communities filled with beginners like me asking questions. That didn’t happen.

There are a few FHIR forums online with a question posted every other day. There’s a sub Reddit that is as good as closed and a StackOverflow tag that generates a question every few days.

Maybe the volume of questions are not out there to support an active community, but I don’t believe that. My feeling is that the lack of participation on these forums has another cause — maybe no one knows where they are.

Stack Overflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/hl7-fhir

HAPI Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/hapi-fhir

Smart on FHIR Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/smart-on-fhir

If I’ve missed any, please post links in the comments.

It would be great if some of these forums and groups were more active, especially on the beginner side. Attracting beginners to tech forums is always difficult but worth it in the long run, as beginners don’t stay beginners for long.
