“Darren’s deep FHIR knowledge has been invaluable in optimising our focus and avoiding common mistakes in getting state claims into the federal database. His generosity of domain knowledge has made our initial implementations higher quality, and contributed to faster and better healthcare to the 175M people who rely on Medicare/Medicaid.”

Laura Lanford (Senior Director, Engineering)

“Darren’s deep expertise in FHIR standards was instrumental to our project’s success. He consistently demonstrated not only technical mastery of the specification but also the practical wisdom to guide implementation decisions that balanced standards compliance with real-world constraints.”

Paul Urban (Lead Platform Solution Architect at Olympus)

When the decisions get harder

Choosing a FHIR server, committing to a hybrid or FHIR-native approach, trying to correct a project that’s already off track. None of these are small decisions, and they’re difficult to fix once real data starts flowing.

This is the work I do.

I’m brought in to help teams make or validate these decisions, to challenge assumptions, and to bring clarity when things are unclear. Sometimes that’s a short, focused piece of work. Sometimes it’s a long-term advisory role alongside project and technical leadership.

If you’re at that point, I’m available for hire.

About me

Speaking at FHIR DevDays in Amsterdam in 2025

I’m Darren Devitt. I’ve worked with organizations like Olympus, Optum, and BCG on their FHIR strategy and architecture. I’m fully independent and have no commercial relationships with any vendor or platform you’re evaluating. My advice is unbiased.
