Getting started with FHIR is easy. Building a polished FHIR solution is not.
Many of the resources you find online barely scratch the surface — they deliver the basics of FHIR but don’t help you build a polished solution that meets all the regulatory and business requirements.
If you’re a developer who’s new to FHIR, I recommend you take a look at Gino Canessa’s “FHIR for Developers” video course.

It’s not for the faint hearted but it does hit many of the key areas of FHIR that you’ll need in real-world FHIR applications.
There’s 27 videos in total. Here are some of the topics covered:
- Accessing a FHIR server from C#
- Running a local FHIR server
- Coding search queries
- Smart on FHIR
- Profiles
- Validation, simple and complicated
- Subscriptions
Each video walks you through a particular area of FHIR from a code perspective. It’s focus is “how do I write code to do this.”
Definitely one to bookmark for later and pass along to your team.
