Every once in a while it’s good to share what I’m actually up to beyond the FHIR articles and conference talks.
Right now my day is 70/30 consulting and writing. I’ll talk more about the book I’m writing next month.
On the consulting side, I work with healthcare and medtech businesses on their FHIR projects. I’m often brought in as an external advisor to help them navigate FHIR decisions.
Here are some projects I’ve been involved in over the past six months.
- Helping to formulate the best multi-tenancy approach to FHIR for a global medtech company.
- Working with an early stage startup in the US with no FHIR experience. I have weekly calls with their CTO to help guide her through early FHIR and data decisions.
- Advising on a build Vs buy decision for a company in Germany who need to expose data via FHIR. I get this a lot. There are so many server vendors out there to choose from.
- Working with a US medtech company on an in-house Implementation Guide and a strategy to make their FHIR data accessible to AI.
- Bi-monthly calls with a wearable device company in the US where I review their upcoming decisions and help trouble-shoot problems.
What these businesses are often looking for is unbiased advice. You can talk to as many vendors as you want and the answer will always be the same: “We’re the best option.” But you can’t trust that answer.
I enjoy the work a lot. My days are never the same. The problems these businesses face are always different but there are commonalities and patterns between them. This past year AI has been floating to the top a LOT – big surprise there!
If you need help with anything I’ve mentioned above, let me know. I’m always happy to have a chat on Zoom and love hearing what businesses are doing with FHIR. The more ambitious the better.
